I am working in corrugated and paper, but foregoing the pre-sculpture in sand which is the basis for Noctiluscent Trilogy and The Fool. Instead, I have found a new way to build the infrastructure to strengthen the the concept behind the paintings when I bring it into three dimensions.
Having worked in functional art, I always want to make sure the art I produce is resilient and won't break easily, even though glass and canvas are extremely fragile and nonetheless art. I take this on not as a problem but as a creative challenge. How do I get to move full-steam ahead into a piece without getting sidetracked by the practicality of the structure? Make it an integral part of the work.
I've just posted a cross-section of one of the new pieces on my Paperworks page. My years of frustration attempting to build strength into the dimension is helping this new work flow more along the lines of expression and exploration than problem-solving and practicality. A true joy.
The other thing I love about this work now is that it is representative of the shifts and changes in my current life energy. The working name for the new work is Torn! Like this corrugated, we all get a little torn up as we go through life. I'm glad I have my art to lend a little creative relief!
Subscribe to this feed and keep track of the work as it moves along.
Peacefully,
